Benjamin Harrison Sr., 82, of Lawrence Lane, Windsor, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home.
He was born in Bertie County on December 10, 1926 to the late Johnie and Rosa Cowan Harrison and was predeceased by a son, John Dwayne Harrison; four brothers; Howard, John Joseph, Coolidge and Rufus Harrison, and one sister, Lily.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of the Khedive Lodge in Portsmouth, VA. He was the owner of Harrison’s Moving and Storage, Plymouth Discount Auto Sales, Harrison’s Outlet Store in Portsmouth and Suffolk and Ben’s Discount in Ahoskie and Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009 at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, by the Rev. Henry Boshen. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, VA.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Smith Harrison of the home; daughters, Katherine Jannell Lowe and husband, James, of Windsor, Patricia Ann Elliot of Jamesville and Kristine Katherine Pierce and husband, Aaron, of San Antonio, TX; sons, Ben Harrison Jr. and wife, Susan, of Chesapeake, VA and Michael Keith Harrison of Greensboro; sister, Glennie H. Lawrence of Chesapeake, VA; brothers, Elton Harrison of Windsor, Willie T. Harrison of Plymouth and William Harrison of Colerain; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the home. Memorial gifts may be made to University Hospital Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
