Warriors earn top seeding

Lawrence Academy got the reward of their near-perfect baseball season here Wednesday afternoon.

The Warriors (22-3) were named the top-seed as they attempt to defend the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association state title. The Warriors and fifth-year skipper Robert Kravitz were perfect inside the Tarheel Independent Conference and earned the state’s top seed.

One other local team will be playing in the baseball postseason as Northeast Academy earned the number 11 seed. The Eagles (9-4) will travel to sixth-seeded Trinity School (13-9) of Durham.

Also earning a top-12 seed was Hobgood Academy, the third member of the TIC to make the field. The Raiders are seeded number 10 and will travel to Wayne Country Day School.

With the top seed, the Lawrence Academy squad will earn a bye in for Friday’s first round games. Also earning a bye were second-seeded Waccamaw Academy, number three seed Kerr-Vance Academy and number four Faith Christian School.

First round matchups include:

#9 Greenfield School and #8 Cape Fear Christian;

#12 Trinity Christian School at #5 Wayne Christian;

#11 Northeast at #6 Trinity; and

#10 Hobgood at #7 Wayne Country Day.

Lawrence will meet the winner of the Greenfield-Cape Fear matchup Tuesday.
