JACKSON — A new increased tipping fee in Northampton County is now in effect.

Recently, the Northampton County Board of Commissioners approved the increase of tipping fees from $45 per ton to $57.

Public Works Director Billy Martin explained to the board that costs associated with labor, fuel, equipment and box rent are not being covered under the old fee.

The tipping fee is for the disposal of construction/demolition and yard waste.

Martin provided a list of surrounding counties’ per ton tipping fees, including Hertford County ($47), Halifax County ($55) and Warren County ($60).

The last increase of the fee came in 2000.
