Geraldine Pierce Davenport, 71, of 2430 Hwy 45 North died Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
She was born in Colerain, NC on August 31, 1937 to the late Linwood Vandy and Maudie Pate Pierce and was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Wayne Davenport, Sr. and a brother-in-law, Jesse Benthall.
Mrs. Davenport was the owner of Davenport’s Garden Center, a member of Colerain Baptist Church, the Republican Board of Elections, the Colerain Civic Club and a master gardener.
Survivors include sons, G. Wayne Davenport Jr. of Waxhaw, NC, Rickie Davenport of Winterville, NC, Linwood Karl Davenport of Colerain, NC and Dennis Payne Davenport of Aulander, NC; a sister, Dolorse Benthall of Ahoskie, NC; and seven grandchildren.
The Rev. Donald Roberts, Jr. will hold a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Colerain Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Davenport Family Cemetery, at the home place.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 and at other times from the home.
Memorial gifts may be made to either the Oxford Children’s Home or to the Hertford County Relay for Life.
