William Cooper

William Cooper (Bill) Alford, 66, died at his home in Ahoskie on April 24, 2009.
Bill was born in Nash County on May 8, 1942 to Charlie Cooper and Bessie Hamlett Alford. He was the ninth child in a family of 10 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Julian Glenn and Roy David Alford.
Bill graduated from Benvenue High School and entered the U.S. Army. He served in the military for over six years, serving one tour in Germany and two in Viet Nam.
Following his military service he held employment as an outside salesman and electronic equipment repairman.
Bill was a member and deacon at Creech Memorial Baptist Church in Ahoskie.
He is survived by sisters, Nan Alford Johnson (Wiley) and Louise Alford Wainright (Rex); and brothers, James Edward (Gaynelle), Charlie Clifton (Vivian), Robert E. (Joyce), Harold R. (Donnie) and Kenneth L. (Jean). There are numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 27 at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremations in Rocky Mount. The Rev. Tom Ravan officiated. Interment followed at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
