ASKEWVILLE – Family and friends have an opportunity to spend time getting acquainted here Saturday.
The town of Askewville is sponsoring Family Fest Day at the Askewville Community Building with a variety of activities that are set to begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.
“We wanted a chance for the community to come together,” said Askewville Mayor John Pierce. “There are a lot of new people moving to town and we hope to give everyone a chance to meet.”
The festivities are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with what most believe is a first for the town of Askewville – a parade. The parade is scheduled to line up on Mizelle Lane, travel down Bryant Street and then turn onto Askewville Street before ending at the community building.
After the parade, there will be an opportunity for children to explore a fire truck and an EMS vehicle as well as to ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
A community yard sale is planned for 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Spaces can be rented for $10 each. All tables have been filled so those wishing to register must bring their own. In order to register, contact Pierce at 794-4492.
The event will also feature hot dogs, goodies and other items. A free blood pressure check will be provided and then the day will culminate with a Southern Gospel sing.
Askewville Bethel Assembly of God is responsible for the first 45 minutes beginning at 2 p.m. while those from Askewville Baptist Church will provide music for the final 45 minutes of the gospel sing.
“We want everyone to come out and enjoy the day,” Mayor Pierce said.
