WINDSOR – The Windsor-Bertie County Chamber of Commerce put on its first Spring Spectacular here Saturday, attracting more than 1,000 people for vendors, car shows, fireworks and a street dance.

“I would say it was a great success,” said Chamber Director Collins Cooper. “Everywhere I have been since Saturday, people have told me how much fun they had and what a good time it was.”

Cooper said he not only had all 25 vendors planning to return next year, but also had multiple people approach him Saturday saying they wish they had set up booths for the event.

“I think we’ll have even better participation next year,” Cooper said.

In addition to the 25 vendors, approximately 60 people entered the car show. Cooper said the event would likely be even larger next year.

“We had a good amount of people come in and out all day,” Cooper said. “Children enjoyed the park and parents were able to be part of the car show and walk through the vendors.”

A DJ performed various types of music during the street dance. Approximately 350 people attended the street dance and as many as 500 had gathered by the time the fireworks display filled the night sky at 8:30 p.m.

Another part of the event was PAWS in the Park, a fundraiser for the Bertie County Human Society. That event was also a success, according to Cooper.

The humane society also offered adoptions during the day and had several pets find new homes.

The event was such a success, Cooper said planning was already under way for the second annual event next year. Anyone wishing to get more information about next year’s event should call the Chamber at 794-4277.
