Easing the tax day blues

JACKSON – April 15 is not a popular day.

As that mid-April day draws near, citizens throughout the local area, state and nation cringe in their shoes with the thought of having to face a mountain of paperwork associated with filling out tax forms.

But this year there was a small ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.

As Jackson area residents made their way to the Post Office, they were greeted by two young ladies bearing gifts…or in this case, items to ease the tax day blues.

On Wednesday, Megan Kessinger and Virginia Martin positioned themselves outside the Jackson Post Office. There, joined by adults Don Johnson, Tammy Martin and Lillian Briggs, the two young ladies handed out bags of Hershey Kisses, bottles of water and stamps.

When asked if there was any charge for the items, especially the stamps, the answer was, “God loves taxpayers.”

Jackson United Methodist Church sponsored the “tax day give-away.”
