Rev. Ralph Rawls, Sr.

Rev. Ralph Rawls Sr., 85, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Rev. Rawls was born September 5, 1923 in Martin County, the son of the late Arthur Rawls and Sophie Mizelle Rawls. He was also predeceased by two children, James Arthur Rawls and Patricia Ann Rawls; a grandson, Michael “Micky” Lassiter; and a brother, Harold Rawls.
Rev. Rawls was a minister for many years with the Assemblies of God Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the American Theatre Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the EAME Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
Rev. Rawls will be remembered for his love of God, his family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann Rawls; his son, Rev. Ralph Rawls Jr. and his wife, Lola, of Columbia, SC; his sisters, Irene Jenkins of Portsmouth, VA, Betty Lyons of Powellsville, Jane Cullipher and Shirley Meekins, both of Portsmouth, VA, and Noggie Hughes of Perrytown; three grandchildren, Brian Lewis Lassiter, Melissa Ann Rawls and Ashley Lou Rawls; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Madison Lynn Lassiter; and a son-in-law, Bobby Lewis Lassiter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Ebenezer Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Charles Kelly, the Rev. Raymond Hoggard and the Rev. R.O. Denton officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Aulander Cemetery.
