Falcons reach semifinals

JAMESVILLE – Bertie is moving on.
Joseph Eure and Cody White combined to pitch a four-hitter as Bertie High School’s varsity baseball team beat Columbia 18-2 in the first round of the Jamesville High School Easter Tournament.
The Falcons scored in every inning of the game. They had four runs in the first, three in the second and then broke the game open with eight in the third inning. Their final two came in the fourth as they won 18-2.
The Falcons recorded 14 hits during the contest. They are led by Kyle Hughes, who was 3-for-3 with four RBIs while White was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Bryce Cullipher, Zeek Williams and Matthew Hoggard each went 2-for-3 with Cullipher adding two RBIs, Williams one RBI and Hoggard two.
Dakota Young (3 RBIs) and Eure (1 RBI) were each 1-for-4.
Eure pitched three innings and garnered the win. He allowed two hits and struck out six. White pitched two innings and allowed two hits with four strikeouts.
Bertie improved to 3-10 overall and was set to meet rival Hertford County High School last night (Monday) in a semifinal contest. The Bears advanced by beating host Jamesville 7-1 Saturday.
