Ruth Sessoms

Ruth Dixon Sessoms, 88, died at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield on Friday, April 10, 2009.
She was born in Henderson to the late Rev. Leonard and Ada Dixon on September 26, 1920. She and her family moved to Colerain in 1939 when her father became the minister of the Colerain Baptist Church and Riverside Baptist Church. She graduated from Colerain High School and attended Campbell College, Meredith College and Hardbarger’s Business College.
She was married to the late Merville White Sessoms. She lived in Colerain for over 40 years before moving to Lake Junaluska. After her husband’s death in 1999 she moved to Smithfield to live near her son and his family.
She is survived by her son, Merville White Sessoms Jr. his wife, Terri; three grandchildren, April Sessoms Lambert, Greg Sessoms and Adam Hand; and one great-grandchild, Eva Wren Lambert.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery in Colerain on Easter Sunday.
Garrett-Jones Funeral Home of Ahoskie is in charge of the arrangements.
