Lila Godwin

KINSTON – Lila Dilday Godwin, 93, of the 700 block of Colony Place, formerly of Ahoskie, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Britthaven of Kinston.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late John William and Lila Doughtie Dilday. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie. Lila was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and worked as a cashier with the Ahoskie Department Store for 30 years. She was the widow of Leo Sparkman Godwin.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Joyce Godwin Dail and her husband, Arthur, of Kinston, NC; a grandson, Gregory Dail and wife, Nancy, of Virginia Beach, VA; great grandchildren, Gregory Dail, Nicholas Dail, Katie Dail, Patrick George, Alexis George and Mary Ashton George; and a niece, Rachel Modlin of Ahoskie.
Mrs. Godwin was predeceased by a daughter, Holli Dail George.
A celebration service of Mrs. Godwin’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Ashley Memorial Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Presley and Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to services and other times at the home of her niece, Rachel Modlin.
