Seven students arrested

GASTON — An assault and robbery at Northampton County High School-West (NCHS-West) has led to the arrest of seven students.
According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, on Friday at approximately 1:47 p.m. deputies were dispatched to NCHS-West in reference to an assault and battery.
Vincent said once on the scene, the responding officers found there had been an attempted robbery.
A male victim was allegedly knocked to the floor by a group of students who then rummaged through his pockets in attempt to steal admission tickets to an event and also money.
Vincent said the incident occurred in the hallway near the media center at the school and seven arrests have been made.
Those taken into custody are:
Jamal Edwards, 16, of 135 Trinity Lane in Garysburg.
Ricky Douglas, 17, of 120 Fireman Myrick Street in Gaston.
Monte Tyrell Garner, 18, of 149 Avent Lane in Garysburg.
David Ramsey, 17, of 231 Circle Drive in Garysburg.
Deontre Tavon Banks, 17, of 1701 Macon Price Road in Garysburg.
Corey M. Boone, 17, of 133 Avent Lane in Garysburg.
Devin Williams, 18, of 317 Railroad Street in Garysburg.
Vincent said each teen was charged with common law robbery and assault and battery. Each was placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.
“The investigation is continuing,” said Vincent. “It is my understanding that there will be juvenile petitions issued.”
