Edith Lassiter

Mrs. Edith Brinkley Lassiter, 79, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Mrs. Lassiter was born February 17, 1930, the daughter of the late James Walter Baggett and Nettie Blowe Baggett. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Jodie Ray Brinkley; her second husband, Lee Lassiter; her son, James Michael Brinkley; and her son-in-law, Johnny Turner.
Mrs. Lassiter was a member of Brantley’s Grove Baptist Church and in recent years she had attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth Ann Ward and her husband, Thomas, of Plymouth, Carolyn Jean Harmon and her husband, Jan, of Delaware and Kathy Louise Turner of Greenville; and her sons, Jodie Ray Brinkley Jr. and his wife, Brenda, and Richard Earl Brinkley and his wife, Sue, all of Ahoskie. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Bobby Ray Ward, Susan Lassiter, Timmy Ward, Gary Ward, Lisa Slaughter, Neal Brinkley, Angela Rogers and Michael Shane Harmon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander with the Rev. J.N. Baggett officiating. Burial will follow at the Brinkley Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26.
