Gladys C. Hawkins, age 89 of Ahoskie, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
She was born March 3, 1919 in Bertie County to the late Lassie Congleton and Kate Dilday Congleton. She was the wife of the late Jesse Hawkins, Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ahoskie.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Ashley Memorial Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery. Rev. Richard Rice will officiate.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Wanda Adams and her husband, George, of Greenville; son Jesse Hawkins Jr. of Anderson, SC; a sister, Bertha Doughtie of Rockville, MD; grandchildren; Emily Jernigan of Branson, MO, Angela Hawkins and Charlie Hawkins, both of Virginia Beach, VA, Ben Hawkins of Chesapeake, VA and Russell Hawkins of Anderson, SC; and six great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Thomas A. Hawkins.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home.
