Pasquotank tops HCHS ladies

AHOSKIE – Pasquotank County High School got 21 points from Jasmine Whitehurst and defeated Hertford County High School 45-38 here Friday night.

The Lady Panthers used a big third quarter to come from behind and beat the Bears. Raven Roundtree and Whitehurst had back-to-back buckets to open the third quarter for Pasquotank.

Briante Bond stopped the spurt for the Bears, but moments later the Lady Panthers got a triple and free throw from Whitehurst and a bucket by Samantha Craig to go ahead 33-26. The visitors led 35-30 after three quarters and never looked back.

HCHS got as close as three (35-32) on an Olivia Edwards bucket early in the fourth quarter, but Pasquotank scored the next seven points (six of which came from Whitehurst) as they built a 43-32 lead.

The Lady Bears got a late field goal and three-pointer from Bond to close within seven, but got no closer as Pasquotank scored the victory.

Bond led the HCHS attack with 17 points while Raqueta Moore and Deondra Morrison had six points each.

Hertford County dropped to 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference with the loss.
