‘Stars’ to emerge Feb. 7

JACKSON — Have you ever wondered if Senator Ed Jones can “cut a rug” or if Northampton County Clerk of Court Michelle Spruill can “strut her stuff”?

Well, now you have your chance.

Jones and Spruill are just two of the area “stars” participating in Northampton County’s very own “Dancing with the Stars.”

The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 7 at in the Cultural and Wellness Center located just outside of Jackson.

A line up of local dancing stars will headline the fund raiser intended to generate funds for the Northampton County Education Foundation.

“It’s going to be entertaining and it’s a good way to support the Education Foundation and their projects,” said Susie Johnson of the Education Foundation.

Joining Jones and Spruill on the dance floor will be Chief Court Counselor Clarence High, Chief Executive Officer of Roanoke Electric Curtis Wynn, Georgia Pacific’s Joe and Ellen Barrett, Central Elementary School’s Wayne Welch Jr., Julius Webb with Chowan University’s Upward Bound Program, Northampton County High School-West’s Bettie Ballard and Monte Freeman as well as other well-known citizens.

Each participant (and partner) will receive two to three minutes to “shake their tail-feather” to a song of their choice.

Johnson said votes for the dancing couples may be cast now and up until intermission of the dance, when the votes will be counted. There is a fee of $1 for each vote.

The couple who receives the most cash votes will be presented with a first place trophy. Recognition will be given to the second place couple as well as to each of the participating couples.

Dance Instructor Peggy Clark and her partner will provide entertainment during intermission. Les Atkins will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Light refreshments will be served at the event. There will be a $5 admission fee at the door.

After the dancing competition, attendees are invited to show their own talent on the dance floor.

The Education Foundation supports the Teacher of the Year competition, Northampton East Automotive Team, Teacher Mini-Grants and other many projects.
