Leona “Polly” Austin Hoggard, 85, of Aulander died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A native of Bertie County, she worked as a telephone operator for Ahoskie Telephone Company and also worked at Talon Zipper factory. She was a member of Hortons Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Donald Austin, Eugene Hoggard, Frances Bazemore and Eddie Hoggard; three sisters and two brothers, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, Dec. 29 at the graveside in Aulander Cemetery. Rev. Allen Mizelle and Rev. Robert Barmer officiated.
