Herbert Tyler

Mr. Herbert Marion “Ted” Tyler Sr., age 73, died at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, North Carolina on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Ted was a native of Northampton County. He graduated from Wake Forest University with a Political Science Degree. He was married to Kathryn Jackson in 1956 and to them was born three children. Ted served the citizens of Rich Square as mayor for ten years. He retired from Bristol Myers Squibb in 1999. He was a very active member of the Rich Square Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, President of the Brotherhood, and a deacon. He was a member of the Rich Square Masonic Lodge #488. Ted will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather with a wonderful sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Clara Bracy and Herbert P. Tyler. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of the home; one daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Tyler Moore and her husband, Ted, of Rich Square, NC; two sons, Herbert Marion “Bert” Tyler, Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Whitakers, NC, and Jeffery Scott “Jeff” Tyler and his wife, Lori, of Moyock, NC; and two brothers, Bobby Tyler and his wife, Nancy, of Newport News, VA and Donnie Tyler and his wife, Jane, of Momeyer, NC. Also surviving is one grandchild, Tessa Erin Tyler; one step-grandchild, Brandy Burden; and two step-great grandchildren, Jarrett and Lauren Burden. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Rich Square Baptist Church in Rich Square, NC with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. The interment will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC. The family will receive friends Friday, December 26, 2008 at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, NC from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.
