News-Herald launches free service

As individuals, there’s not much we can say or do to ease a person’s emotional strife after they have become the latest victim of the nation’s economic downturn.
As a newspaper, we can, and we will, try to help.
Due to the sluggish economy, local companies and other avenues of employment are making cutbacks. That’s never good news, but even worse when those job losses come during the Christmas season. Now, many local residents will spend their holidays in hardship.
It’s an unfortunate side effect of today’s economy. Layoffs have made headlines nationally in recent weeks and months, but they hurt most when they hit home.
What this newspaper will do is help link those seeking work with potential employers. Call us an “Employment Matchmaker” if you will.
Beginning today, those seeking employment can place a “Jobs Wanted” ad for free. Look for the form on page 3B, follow the directions, fill it out, and return it to us. That’s all it is to it….no strings attached; no commitment.
Perhaps you worked in one line of employment, but have skills in another. Include that information in your “Jobs Wanted” ad.
Hopefully, local businesses will find some of their next employees on the pages of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald just as countless of thousands of local residents have found jobs there over the years.
To those seeking employment at this time, we wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
