Frances Sumner

Frances Ellen Horton Sumner, 76 of Union, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
She was born July 27, 1932 in Hertford County to the late Archie Craig Horton and Ima Lee Barham Horton.
She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, a very active member of Union United Methodist where she played the piano, a former member of Union Baptist Church, and a member of the Keenagers Club of Murfreesboro.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2008 in the Ashley Chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Rev. Earl Perry will officiate.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Lawrence R. Sumner of the home; a daughter, Kim Sumner of Union; a son, Kenneth Sumner of Lewiston; a sister, Thelma Mowels of Richmond; and one niece and five nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon Sumner, and a sister, Laverne Guess.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, Dec. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home.
