AHOSKIE – Everyone remembers Arthur Lee Wiggins.

The Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce is no exception, and they shouldn’t be…after all, Wiggins did lead that business-friendly organization for most of his adult life.

Over four years after his death, the Ahoskie Chamber continues their fond memories of this great public servant as they will host the formal dedication of the Arthur Lee Wiggins Room on Saturday, Oct. 25.

This event will be held in conjunction with the Ahoskie Chamber’s annual Open House and is scheduled for 6:30-8 p.m.

As part of the room dedication in honor of the now late Chamber Director, a portrait of Wiggins will also be unveiled.

Those needing tickets are urged to immediately contact the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce at 332-2042. Tickets are priced at $30 per couple and the deadline is 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24.

All proceeds will support the Ahoskie Chamber’s Building and Grounds Project.

Beverages and hors d’oeuvers will be served.

“Arthur Lee set the standard for what we expect an active Chamber of Commerce to do within its local business community,” said Jerry Castelloe, Interim Executive Director of the Ahoskie Chamber. “We see this room dedication and portrait unveiling as a way to invoke his memory and pay tribute to a man who deeply cared for Ahoskie, its citizens and its businesses. We cordially invite the public to join us on this special day.”

Wiggins, who passed away in May of 2004, also served Ahoskie as a four-term Mayor.

In his honor, the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, since 2005, sponsors the Arthur Lee Wiggins Memorial Golf Tournament. That event, which benefits the Chamber, is held in April of each year.
