JACKSON—Speeders heed caution here.
Recently, the Jackson Police Department was the recipient of radar guns courtesy of the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program (GHSP).
According to JPD Detective Greg Colson, the department obtained two K55 radars as part of the Exchange Program with GHSP.
Colson said the radars are refurbished from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Colson could not give a price estimate on how much the radars typically cost, but said they are expensive.
The two radar devices have been installed in both of the JPD patrol cars.
Colson said the radars will assist JPD in curtailing speeders through town.
The GHSP’s mission is to promote highway safety awareness and reduce the number of traffic crashes in the state of North Carolina through the planning and execution of safety programs.
