Julius Sexton

Julius Wallace Sexton, 85, of 203 Shaw Street, died Saturday, October 18, 2008 in his home.
Mr. Sexton was born in Hertford County and was the son of the late Joseph Wilson and Evalene Armstrong Sexton. The retired owner and operator of Sexton Logging, he was a member of the Methodist Church, a charter member of the Winton Volunteer Fire Dept., president of the Winton Hunting Club, and had served on the Winton Town Council for some 20 years with several terms as Mayor Pro Tem. An Army veteran of World War II, he had received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Joyce Mathias Sexton; a daughter, Denise “Dee” Sexton Smith and husband Gary of Kitty Hawk; two sons, Clifton Wallace “Cliff” Sexton and wife Angela of Winton and Glenn A. Sexton and wife Stacey of Eure; a sister, Mildred Stallings of Louisburg, NC; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Joseph Futrell. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the home of his son, 803 N. Taylor Street, Winton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to University Hospice, P.O. Box 272, or the Ahoskie Cancer Center, 301 S. Academy Street, both in Ahoskie, NC 27932.
