Elder Richard Curtis “Bear” Askew, 49, a native of Bertie County, died October 7, 2008 in Greensboro.
Askew was last employed in the maintenance department at Wal-Mart. He was an Elder and choir member of City of Praise Church, Powellsville.
Survivors include his wife, Marcia Swain Askew of Colerain; sons, Richard Curtis “CJ” Askew Jr., Desman S. Askew, David Chamblee and Donald Chamblee, all of Colerain; a daughter, Matisha Artis of Elizabeth City; his mother, Bessie Raynor of Colerain; a brother, Michael Askew of Colerain and a sister, Cheryl Askew of Colerain.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at City of Praise Church, Powellsville, by the Rev. Walter Boston. Burial will be in the Freeman, Watford and Raynor family cemetery, Colerain. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
