Irene Jernigan Slaughter, age 87, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mrs. Slaughter was born April 16, 1921 in Bertie County, NC to the late Marcus Ollie Jernigan and Hattie Jernigan Jernigan. She was a member of Earlys Baptist Church of Ahoskie and a homemaker.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Pam Zelinski and husband Peter of Charlotte, NC and two sons, Donald Slaughter and wife, Debbie of Edenton and Pruett Slaughter and wife, Claire of Prairieville, LA. She is also survived by sisters, Mary Sue Garris of Severn and Eunice Cummings of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008, at Earlys Baptist Church, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Ronald W. McSwain officiating, Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Earlys Baptist Church, C/O Robert E. Brinkley, 310 S. Early Station Road, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
