Rupert Chavis, 93, a native of Hertford County, died September 26, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Ashe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
