LASKER-At first glance it was difficult to tell the teams apart as both wore red pants and jerseys.

After the opening whistle the differences became obvious as Northeast Academy pounded visiting Oak Ridge, 60-0.

The Eagles tallied 495 total yards, including 383 on the ground. They were led by senior Brandon Futrell with 161 yards on 15 carries and four touchdowns. Classmate Arch Harrell carried the ball four times for 141 yards and two scores.

Not to be outdone the Northeast defense held the Cadets to negative yardage both on the ground and in the air. Oak Ridge finished with 82 total yards. The Eagles also recovered three fumbles and blocked one punt.

Less than thirty seconds into the first quarter sophomore quarterback Davis Harrell connected with Hunter Deloatch for a 67 yard score. The PAT was blocked, leaving Northeast with a 6-0 advantage.

Two plays later A. Harrell caused the Oak Ridge runner to fumble and the ball was recovered by senior Wesley Bryant. Futrell covered 21 yards in three plays, capped off by a 15 yard scoring run, then ran in the conversion for a 14-0 Northeast lead.

The Cadets earned consecutive first downs on their next possession, moving the chains to the Northeast 13 yard line. After gaining two yards on two plays defensive end Zach Mize and linebacker Josh Rose tackled Oak Ridge’s quarterback in the backfield for an eight yard loss. The Cadets went for it on fourth down but Mize tackled the runner, causing Oak Ridge to turn the ball over on downs.

Dustin Boggs recovered an Eagles fumble to give the Cadets offense another opportunity but tackles by Russ Flythe and A. Harrell moved Oak Ridge backwards and they were forced to punt.

With Jay Baugham calling the plays and A. Harrell carrying the ball, the Eagles found the end zone again. A. Harrell ran through the defensive line 70 yards to paydirt. Futrell carried in the conversion as the Eagles extended their lead, 22-0.

Oak Ridge fumbled on the ensuing kickoff and sophomore Douglas Cherry recovered the ball. Deloatch ran 26 yards to the Oak Ridge 14. An unsportsmanlike penalty call on the Cadets gave the Eagles first and goal.

Futrell covered the final seven yards for the score. The conversion run was just short as Northeast took a 28-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

The Eagles wasted no time in the second as Deloatch scored on a 13 yard run with 10:08 on the clock. Deloatch caught Baughan’s pass for the two-point conversion, giving Northeast a 36-0 lead.

Two plays later Deloatch caused an Oak Ridge fumble which Bryant recovered. Deloatch, at quarterback, tucked and ran 18 yards then handed off to Futrell who parted the defenders like the parting of the red sea for the nine yard score. The PAT was wide but the Eagles held a 42-0 advantage.

Northeast added one more score before the half, a twenty yard run by Deloatch. The PAT was blocked as the Eagles took a 48-0 score into the locker room.

On their first possession of the third Northeast moved the ball 48 yards in 11 plays. D. Harrell, back in at quarterback, ran the final nine yards for the score as the clock continued to run. A failed PAT left the Eagles ahead, 54-0, entering the fourth quarter.

On their first play of the fourth quarter A. Harrell sprinted 48 yards for the Northeast score. Another blocked PAT left the Eagles with a 60-0 advantage. They had one more opportunity to score after a blocked punt by Mize set Northeast up on the Oak Ridge 33 yard line. The Eagles drove to the 12 before taking a knee as time expired.

The win gives Northeast a 4-0 record heading into next week’s contest at top seeded Trinity. The Eagles will be back in Lasker on September 27 when they host Rocky Mount Academy.
