MERRY HILL – An early morning party was the scene of a shooting here Sunday.

According to Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins, a Merry Hill man was shot once in each leg after an altercation at the Merry Hill Community Center. The incident was reported at approximately 3 a.m.

The victim, William Majette, 21 of Merry Hill, was shot twice and airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Atkins said the man’s injuries did not appear life-threatening.

The sheriff said an investigation was under way and that a suspect had been developed, but did not elaborate.
