WINDSOR n Henry Hyman, 65, died August 22, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Indian Woods Baptist Church. Burial will be in Indian Woods Church Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Ruth Bristow

LASKER n Ruth Bristow, 86, died August 31, 2008.

Jack L. Rook

GASTON n Jack Lee Rook, 80, a native of Brunswick County, VA, died August 31, 2008 at Magnolia Gardens in Warrenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Dennis Gregory. Burial will be Conway Cemetery, Conway. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Rook was a US Army veteran and served his country in the Korean War. He retired from Halifax Paper Board.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Futrell Rook; two stepchildren, Philip Brown of Littleton and Christine Morgan of Gaston; a sister, Estelle Rook of Gaston; two stepgrandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
