Peter P. Roussis

AHOSKIE n Peter P. Roussis, 73, a native of Aigios Petros, Greece, died August 18, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Mr. Roussis was a retired businessman and a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Cleo L. Roussis of Ahoskie, N.C.; son, George Roussis and wife Tonya of Canaan, Ct.; daughter, Loretta M. Myers and husband Gerald of Harrellsville, N.C.; one sister, Regina Georganas of Greece; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Palmer’s Funeral Home in Canaan, Ct. In lieu of flowers and monetary donations to the Kidney Foundation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clinton M. Backus

AHOSKIE – Clinton M. Backus, 77, died August 18, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Evangeline Combo

GREENSBORO – Evangeline Combo, 59, a native of Hertford County, died August 16, 2008 in Oxford.

Mrs. Combo attended CS Brown School at an early age. She employed by Sonoco Manufacturing.

Survivors include her husband, Alphonso Combo;

two sons, Richard and Hayes Combo, both of Greensboro; one sister, Dorothy Clark of Greensboro; two brothers, Vernon Riddick of Murfreesboro and James C. Riddick of Harrellsville; and three

Grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Archer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Joseph L. Price

WELDON n Joseph Lee Price, 44, died August 15, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at House of Prayer #3 Church, Halifax, by Pastor Willie Price Jr. Interment will be in Shearin’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

Kristopher Norman

AULANDER n Kristopher Leonard Norman, 30, a native of Charleston, SC, died August 14, 2008 at his home.

Norman was currently employed as a computer technician for Tec Team, Ahoskie. He also previously owned his own computer business.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 21 at Northville Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at Woodland First Full Gospel Church (Hwy. 34 N. Woodland) by the Rev. Marie Jones. Edith Hudson

NEWPORT NEWS, VA n Edith Josie Greene Hudson, 87, a native of Gates County, died August 18, 2008 in Riverside Regional Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the family plot in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Mrs. Hudson was retired from Maida Development Corp. She was a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Avernia Banton of Newport News; a son, Woodrow Hudson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Juanita H. Bell

COFIELD – Juanita Hall Bell, 86, died August 18, 2008.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holly Spring Baptist Church. Garrett Funeral Home, Ashley Chapel, is in charge.

Sarah R. Franz

NORFOLK, Va. – Sarah R. Franz, 75, native of Norfolk, died August 19, 2008, in her residence. She was the widow of Raymond J. Franz.

Survivors include her daughters, Diana Warren of Sedley and Michelle Eason of Sunbury; her son, Steven Franz of Norfolk; six grandchildren; her sister, Christine Peters of Chesapeake; and five great-grandchildren.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Edith Josie Greene Hudson, 87, died August 18, 2008. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the family plot in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Mr. Clarence Edward Falice

Mr. Clarence Edward Falice, 61, 1111 Freedom Drive, Statesville, died Monday, August 18, 2008. Clarence was the son of the late John Lawrence Freeman and Ethel Marie Falice, and grandson of the late Isaac and Christiana Falice. He was born on April 21, 1947, in Ahoskie, N.C.

Mr. Falice attended the Hertford County Schools, and was a member of Knox Grove Baptist Church. He loved fishing, and helping people.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gurtha Peele Falice; daughter, Pamela Falice; grandson, Jacobi Falice, all of Statesville; three brothers, Frank Freeman, Alexander Falice, and John McCoy Freeman, (wife, Linda), all of Ahoskie; two sisters, Queen Freeman of Ahoskie, and Gladys Freeman of Washington, DC; three brothers-in-law, James Peele, Vernon Peele (wife,Gloria), both of Ahoskie, and James Mills of Statesville; two uncles, King Thomas Falice and Linwood Falice, both of Ahoskie; five aunts, Mable Falice of Richmond, Va., Flossie Falice of Philadelphia, PA., Rebecca Falice of Ahoskie, Rosetta Fennell of Newport News, VA., and Evelyn Smith of Ahoskie; four nieces, Wendi Peele Vann (husband, Elrod) of Ahoskie, Ebony Freeman of Philadelphia, PA., Shakia Sessoms of Hampton, VA., and Tamara Powell of Ahoskie; five nephews, Ronta Freeman of Ahoskie, Kareem Freeman of Georgia, Cassius Bunch, LaCruz Harris, and Raheem Harris; all of Ahoskie; a special friend, Lisa Mills of Statesville; Hospice of Iredell County, care-giver, Joe Stallings; many other close relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 23, 2008, at Knox Grove Baptist Church, Cleveland. The Rev. James Millsaps will officiate and burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Members of the family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour, 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.

Juanita H. Bell

Cofield – Juanita Hall Bell, age 86 of Cofield died Monday August 18, 2008 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie. She was born June 27, 1922 in Bertie County to the late Norman Hall and Fannie Baugham Hall. She was the wife of the late Randolph Bell.

Mrs. Bell was a Homemaker and a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church.

A Celebration of  her Life service will be held at 2PM Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Rev. Gilbert Crawford will officiate.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; daughters, Joyce Bolam of Ahoskie, Joan and her husband Will Clarke of Gatesville, Barbara and her husband Carroll Mizelle of Cofield, sons, Wilmer and his wife Marie Bell of Ahoskie and Earl and his wife Joyce Bell of Ahoskie, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son James Bell Tunis.

Edith Montague

WINDSOR n Edith Whitmel White Montague, 81, a native of Windsor, died August 19, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A graveside service will be conducted at at 11 a.m. Thursday at Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. Condolences may be directed to www.walkerfh.net.

Mrs. Montague was a registered nurse, she worked briefly in Richmond, Va., but most of her career was employed with the Bertie County Health Department. She was a member of Cashie Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Merle R. Montague of Windsor; daughters, Debbie Montague of Chapel Hill and Beth Montague of Cary; a son, John Montague of Raleigh and a sister, Elizabeth White Williams of Greenville, SC.

Ellis Richardson

COMO n Ellis Richardson, 89, a native of Henderson, died August 14, 2008 at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. Elliot Hill. Burial will be in the Bynum & Everette Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Richardson of Como; a son, Byron Richardson of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Candy Richardson of New York, NY and Stephanie Richardson of Boston, Mass.; and one stepdaughter, Sarah Briggs of Maryland.
