Carl Castello

Carl Ray Castello, 80, of the 200 block of Bethlehem Church Road, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mr. Castello was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Zeddie and Lessie Casper Castello. He was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church and the Powellsville Scrub Club. Carl was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was also an antique furniture dealer and owned and operated Castello’s Antiques in Powellsville for many years.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of over 60 years, Sadie Newbern Castello; his daughters, Cheryl D. Levinson and husband, Stanley of Norfolk, VA, and Julia C. Godwin and husband Wallace of Ahoskie, NC; brothers, Gomer Castello of Texas and Craig Castello of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Tanya Levinson and Samuel Levinson, both of Norfolk, VA, Carla Godwin of Rocky Mount, NC, and Stacey G. Hoggard and husband, Steve of Powellsville; and two great grandsons, Gavin Levinson and Michael Hoggard.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Friday, August 15, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Powellsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith White and Rev. Kevin Copeland officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42, West, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home.
