WINTON – A plan is in the works for Hertford County Schools to have its own cable TV channel.

Hertford County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Basham introduced the idea during the July 28 monthly school board meeting.

“The project is still in the infant stage of development… it might be three or four years down the road because there is a lot involved when you have your own cable channel,” he noted.

Dr. Basham said that he thought the channel the school system would be acquiring would be viewed on channel 19.

Things such as public service announcements, band and other club activities, athletics and the like would be shown on the channel once it is up and running.

“We would like to show parents and the public what Hertford County Public Schools are all about,” Basham stated.

Board member David Shields made a motion to give Basham permission to go ahead and move forward with the idea. J. Wendell Hall offered a second.

The measure passed unanimously.
