Cornelia S. Majette

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Cornelia Spence Majette, 91, a native of Conway, died July 29, 2008. She was the widow of William E. Majette.

Mrs. Majette worked for many years with the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. She was a former member of Talbot Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Shirley S. Oglethorpe of Virginia Beach; her children, Robert &uot;Bob&uot; E. Majette and Richard L. Majette, both of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by Dr. Tim Dixon. Memorial contributions may be made to The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507. Cox Funeral Home is in charge. Inez Stallings

WINDSOR n Inez Hines Stallings, 86, a native of Johnson County, died July 30, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Aycock family cemetery on Bizzel Church Road, Mirco, by the Rev. Steven Walker. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Cashie Baptist Church, 221 S. Queen St., Windsor, NC 27983. Condolences may be directed to www.walkerfh.net.

Mrs. Stallings was a member of Cashie Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John Walter Stallings Sr. of Windsor; a daughter, Neenie S. Whitehead of Windsor; sons, John W. Stallings Jr. of Denville, NJ and Keith Stallings of Raleigh; sisters, Merle H. Brown of Selma and Margaret H. Daughtry, both of Selma, and Bessie H. Howell of Kenly; brothers, Carl Worth Hines and Tom Hines, both of Selma and C.B. Hines of Clayton; and five grandchildren.

Bruce L. Gray

ROCKY MOUNT n Bruce Lee Gay, 55, died July 28, 2008 at Nash Health Care Systems, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Word Tabernacle Church, Rocky Mount, by Pastor James Gailliard. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held Monday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Phyliis D. Parrish

OXEN HILL, MD – Phyliis D. Parrish, 53, a native of Hertford County, died July 28, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Parrish was an administrator with Georgetown University. She was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, William Burke of Oxen Hill; her mother, Naomi Mitchell of Ahoskie; three brothers, William White and Willie S.

Mitchell Jr., both of Ahoskie and Terry

Mitchell of Spring Lake; and one sister, Rosebud Cashwell of Washington, DC.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church

SEVERN n Calvin Woodard, 80, died August 1, 2008 at his home.

Geneva Perry

AHOSKIE – Geneva Perry, 68, a native of Bertie County, died July 30, 2008 at her residence.

She was a member of Greater Wynn’s Grove Baptist Church in Colerain. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Larry Perry of East Hampton, CT; sisters, Odessa Perry Campbell of Ahoskie, Annie G. Perry of Windsor, Rev. Ella Perry of Middletown, CT, Sarah Perry of Colerain, Susan Perry of Williamsburg, VA, Ann Dempsey of Raleigh, Mary Jones of Ohio, and Jo-Ann Hunter of Ahoskie; brothers, DelHart Dempsey, Ruben Dempsey and Willie Dempsey, all of Ahoskie and Johnny Dempsey of Franklin; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Wilder’s Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., is in charge.

Ernest Judd

WINDSOR n Ernest Judd, 85, a native of Durham, died July 26, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Indian Woods Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Esther Judd of the home; three sons, Jimmie Judd of Windsor, Ernest Judd of Malvern, Pa., and Michael Judd of Ladson, SC; one adoptive son, Elder Linwood Jr. of Greenville; one daughter, Stacey of Greenville; one brother, Ronald Atwater of Connecticut; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Nicolia M. Goodman

SUNBURY n Nicolia Marie Goodman, 92, a native of Chowan County, died July 30, 2008 at Albemarle Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John AME Zion Church, Sunbury, by the Rev. Samuel Buck Jr. Burial will be in the Drake Memorial Cemetery. A viewing will be conducted from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Gates, in Sunbury.
