Charles W. Tucker

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Charles Wayne Tucker, 77, died July 23, 2008. He was the widower of Rebecca Tucker.

Survivors include his daughter, Joyce Morton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joan Umstead, June Sowell and Jean Oren.

Tucker was a very active member in Sunday school, faith visitation at London Bridge Baptist Church for many years.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home. Burial followed in Murfreesboro. Condolences may be made to the family at www.altmeyer.com.

Kyle A. Richardson

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Kyle Andrew Richardson, 22, died July 23, 2008.

Survivors include his sisters, Tiffiney Richardson, Jacqueline Gaddis, Anita Wilson, Lenise Cowling and Amanda Howard; a brother, Dustin Banks; and his father, Ronnie Wilson..

A memorial service for Kyle was conducted Wednesday at Providence United Church of Christ,

Chesapeake.

Erma Singleton

LEWISTON n Erma Sandlerlin “Doll Baby” Singleton, died July 26, 2008 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be conducted from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Belinda Butler

SUNBURY n Belinda Butler, 52, died July 27, 2008 in Suffolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. John AME Zion Church, Sunbury, by the Rev. Samuel L. Buck Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Sunbury.

Survivors include one son, Tyrone Butler of Sunbury; three brothers, Leroy Riddick of Rocky Mount, Rev. Edward Hurbert Riddick of Gatesville and Donnie Riddick of Sunbury; three daughters, Dorothy Johnson, Joyce Riddick and Jacqueline Grant, all of Sunbury; and one grandchild.

Hattie B. Sessoms

MURFREESBORO n Hattie B. Sessoms, 92, a native of Hertford County, died July 27, 2008 at Brian Center of Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Fernando Temple Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include three sons, Louis E. Sessoms of New York, Michael Sessoms of Mapleton and James C. Sessoms of Durham; five daughters, Virginia Pore of Corona, NY, Catherine Sessoms of Brooklyn, Delphia Gatling of Mapleton, Brenda S. Burgess of Atlanta, GA and Alice Majette of Bronx; two sisters, Dorothy Gatling of Murfreesboro and Murlie Gatling of Amityville; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Bruce L. Gray

ROCKY MOUNT n Bruce Lee Gray, 55, died July 28, 2008.

Ernest Judd

WINDSOR n Ernest Judd, 85, a native of Durham, died July 26, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Indian Woods Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Marion L. Barber

WINDSOR – Marion Lawrence Barber, 93, died July 28, 2008.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Marion F. Eason

SUNBURY – Marion Francis &uot;Mack&uot; Eason, 77, a native of Gates County, died July 29, 2008, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Oak Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Garrett Lewis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing and visitation with the family will be held Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at his residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mack’s memory may be made to Chowan University Book of Memory, 1 University Place, Murfreesboro, NC 27885 or to Oak Grove Christian Church, c/o Jesse Modlin, 663 Hwy. 158 East, Sunbury, NC 27979. Eason was a manager of the Gates County Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. He was a life-long member of Oak Grove Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and had formerly taught Sunday school. Other memberships include Gates County Rotary Club, Sunbury Investment Club, Gates Partners of Health, service as chairman of the Gates County Planning Board, 55 year membership in the Gates County Democratic Party and Chowan University Board of Visitors.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Andrea Emmot Eason; three daughters, Lisa Perry of Tyner, Suzanne Stallings of Elizabeth City and Frances Eason Cole of Murfreesboro; twin sisters, Peggy Ward of Tyner and Starr Rhodes of Sunbury; and four grandchildren.

Emily V. Piland

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Graveside services for Emily Virginia Piland was held Wednesday in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Eure. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, was in charge.

Ernest Strawthre Jr.

COLERAIN – Ernest Strawthre Jr., a native of Charleston, WVa., died July 24, 2008 at his residence.

Strawthre was

enlisted in the United States Navy and became a First Class Gunner’s Mate (GMGI). He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Perelene L. Strawthre of Norfolk, Va.; two sons, Ernest Demond Strawthre of Fayetteville, but stationed in Iraq and Ernest Herron Strawthre III of Colerain; two daughters, Pamela Smith of Portsmouth and Sherry Bethley of Chesapeake; and one grandson.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Albert Horton Veteran’s Memorial

Willie G. Johnson

HEXLENA – Willie G. Johnson, 83, a native of Cuthulbert, Ga., died July 27, 2008 at his residence.

Johnson was a member of Virgin Chapel in GA.  He enlisted in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Diane C. Johnson of the home; four sons, Willie Dorset of Texas, Richard Johnson of South Carolina, Garry Johnson and Donnell Johnson, both of New York; five daughters, Lillian Hooper, Lucinda Johnson and Mozzella Johnson, all of

Florida, Jennifer Johnson of Maryland and Kisha Johnson of Virginia; and one brother, Curtis Johnson of Georgia.

A memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral

Undine F. Parker

AULANDER – Undine Fuller Parker, age 80 of the 100 Block of Ray Farmer Rd. in Aulander, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at her home. Born January 8, 1928 in Nash County, she was the daughter of the late William Walter Robert Fuller and Menola Wells Fuller. She was the wife of the late Wiley Cleveland Parker, Sr.

Mrs. Parker was a faithful member of the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, a former Pianist and worked in the Dietary Department at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11 AM at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery. Rev. John B. Parker will officiate.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Nancy P. Bracy and her husband Odie L. Bracy III of Indianapolis, IN., Ellen M. Parker of the home, Betty P. Young of Aulander and Claire P. Morris and her husband Lee R. Morris of Aulander, three sons Wiley C. Parker, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Durham, Victor A. Parker and his wife Cynthia of Raleigh and Avery M. Parker of Rocky Mount, a sister, Bruce Snellings of Chesapeake, VA.; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM at the Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
