Chester Thomas

ROCKY MOUNT n Chester Lee Thomas, 51, died July 17, 2008 at Nash Health Care Systems.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at H.D. Pope F unreal Home Chapel, Rocky Mount. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to service. Condolences may be sent via email to www.hdpopefuneralhome.com.

Bessie Vicke

ROXOBEL – Mrs. Bessie Theresa Parker Vicke, 87, died July 16, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor. She was the widow of Waverly Vicke.

Mrs. Vicke was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church, Roxobel where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member.

She worked for 18 years with Lebron Morris and Bobby Davis selling antiques and bookkeeping.

She also worked for Woodville Supply Company as a clerk and bookkeeper.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley V. Perry of Colerain;

two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sandy Run Baptist Church, Roxobel, by the Rev. Henry Boschen.

Burial will be at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel. Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, is in charge.

David L. Bridgett

WINDSOR n David Lewis Bridgett, 64, a native of Bertie County, died July 15, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Elmo Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. David Rascoe. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Bridgett was employed with the maintenance department of Perdue.

James F. Wilkins

ROXOBEL n James Felton Wilkins, 65, a native of Bertie County, died July 15, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Wilkins was a retired cook at several restaurants in Greensboro. He was a member of Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Aulander.

Survivors include his sisters, Martha Martin and Mary Gorham, both of Roxobel.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Sunday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rich Square, by the Rev. Milton Lee. Burial will be in the Wilder’s-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

Lonnie S. Albertson Sr.

NORFOLK, Va.

– Lonnie Sherlock Albertson Sr., 82, a native of Pasquotank County, died July 14, 2008, in Norfolk. He was the widower of Lydieth H. Albertson.

Albertson retired from NORSHIPCO as a rigger after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Norview Masonic Lodge.

Survivors incldue two daughters, Linda Newcomb of Palmyra, Va., and Kerri L. Albertson of Gates; two sons, Lonnie S. Albertson Jr. of Georgia and Terry L. Albertson of Suffolk; three sisters, Jeanetta Forbes and Margaret Edwards, both of Virginia Beach and Bessie Coley of Maryland; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. W. Jerry Holcomb. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Sallie Keene

GREENVILLE n Sallie Keene, 92, a native of Hertford County, died July 17, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Rhonda Jordan. Viewing will be held Sunday afternoon at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, and on Monday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Ahoskie. Mrs. Keene was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church and attended Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, Greenville.

Survivors include two sons, Billie Keene Jr. of Ocala, FL and James Edward Keene of Portsmouth, Va.; two daughters, Jean Keene of Ayden and Cordelle Newberry of Westbury, NY; one sister, Margaret Wiggs of St. Albans; and a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Rufus Lassiter Jr.

AHOSKIE n Rufus Lassiter Jr., died July 17, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
