Stabbing suspect arrested

SEABOARD – A Seaboard man has been arrested following a stabbing that occurred here over the weekend.
According to Seaboard Police Chief George Reed, Timothy Richardson Jr., 29, of 845 Peanut Market Road in Seaboard, has been arrested in connection to a stabbing that took place early Sunday morning.
Reed said the incident occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. on Peanut Market Road where a birthday party was being held.
A fight reportedly broke out among a crowd of people, which spilled out into the street.
Reed said during the fight, Richardson allegedly stabbed Marvin Maurice Deloatch, 31, once in the lower torso.
“According to my investigation, (the victim) was trying to get his brother out of the crowd when he was stabbed,” he said.
Reed said Deloatch was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center (HRMC) where he underwent emergency surgery.
HRMC officials did not return a phone call placed by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald concerning Deloatch’s condition as of press time.
Reed said Richardson was taken into custody Monday afternoon.
Richardson was charged with assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was taken to the Northampton County Jail and placed under a $10,000 secured bond.
Richardson’s first appearance in court is Thursday.
Reed said the investigation is continuing.
