Vickie F. Demary

MURFREESBORO – Vickie Flood Demary, 51, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., died July 8, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. 

Survivors include a daughter, Shaleacca Vaughan of Murfreesboro; and three grandchildren.

Services will be conducted Saturday at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by the Rev. Robert Richardson III. Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery.  Hunter’s Funeral Home Murfreesboro is in charge. Condolences may be sent to huntersfuneralhome.com.

Marilyn P. Johnson

GREENSBORO – Marilyn Pruden Johnson, 88, a native of Severn, died July 8, 2008, in Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. She was the widow of Jeptha Thomas Johnson.

Survivors include a son, J. Thomas Johnson Jr. of Winston-Salem; her daughter, Marilue Johnson Sheffield of Greensboro; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson graduated from Women’s College in Greensboro in 1940 and taught kindergarten in Murfreesboro for many years. She was an active, longtime member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church until she moved to Greensboro in 1999 at which time she moved her membership to First Baptist Church of Greensboro.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Severn Cemetery, Severn, by the Rev. Thomas Caulkins. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of Murfreesboro Baptist Church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Murfreesboro Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Greensboro, Hospice and Care of Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summitt Ave., Greensboro, NC 24705 or the ALS Foundation. W. Kilby Perry Jr.

EURE – W. Kilby Perry, Jr., 87, July 8, 2008.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday Cool Spring Baptist Church. Burial was in Eure Baptist Church Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge.

Freddie Miller

WINDSOR n Freddie Miller, 76, died July 8, 2008 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the Miller family cemetery, Windsor.

Clarence Smith

WINDSOR n Clarence James Edward Smith, 29, died July 8, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Ruby Leggett

LEWISTON-WOODVILLE n Ruby Coburn Leggett, 88, a native of Bertie County, died July 9, 2008 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount. She was the widow of Jimmy Leggett.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Lewiston. Burial will be in the Hoggard Memorial Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Mrs. Leggett was a homemaker. She was active in the WMU as a member of Republican Church and then at Lewiston Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Manning of Lewiston-Woodville; a son, James L. Leggett of Spring Hope; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a step-grandson.

Cecil R. Peebles

CONWAY n Cecil R. Peebles, 61, a native of Northampton County, died July 8, 2008 at Roanoke Villa Assisted Living Center in Rich Square.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Allen Chapel AME Church, Jackson, by Minister Larry Peebles. Interment will be in the Peebles family cemetery. Faison’s Funeral Home, Seaboard, is in charge.

Survivors include his children, Cecil Peebles of Pleasant Hill, Wanda Monroe of Woodland and Lucille Jordan of Raleigh; his mother, Clarissia Peebles of Conway; six brothers, Frank Peebles Jr. of Jackson, Willie Peebles of Jamaica, NY, McCoy Peebles of Durham, Jerry Peebles of Henderson, Roger Peebles of Butner and Minister Larry Peebles of Oxford; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Randolph Pierce

FRANKLIN, Va. n Randolph Pierce, 48, a native of Northampton County, died July 9, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Sinai Church, Murfreesboro, by Elder Melvin Murphy. Interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson. Faison’s Funeral Home, Seaboard, is in charge.

Survivors include his children, Antoine Pierce and Brandon Pierce, both of Boykins, Nyesha Pierce of Jarratt; one brother, Edward Pierce of Courtland; and four sisters, Ellen Hill of Newport News, Portia Vaughan of Franklin, Bobbie Speller of Aulander and Grace Loyd of Tarboro.
