WINDSOR – Two former school board members will challenge a pair of incumbents.

Filing closed Monday for three seats on the Bertie County Board of Education, but not before past board members completed paperwork to run for seats in their district.

George W. Drake of Windsor filed to seek the District 5 seat on the Bertie Board of Education. He will challenge incumbent Gloria C. Lee who had already filed for the office. Both candidates have Windsor addresses.

Also filing on the last day was Seaton P. Fairless Jr. of Colerain, a former board member who chose not to seek reelection two years ago. Fairless filed for the remaining two years left on the term for District 3. His candidacy means three people are seeking the post.

Emma H. Johnson of Aulander was appointed to the District 3 seat following the resignation of Michael Bracy. She has filed to retain that seat for the next two years.

Also running for the District 3 seat is Curtis E. Bryan of Colerain.

The remaining seat open on the board of education is in District 1 where Melinda J. Eure of Windsor is the incumbent. Eure has filed to retain her seat and is being challenged by Pamela Chamblee and Dallis C. Godard, both of Windsor.

Voters will cast ballots for the three seats during the November 4 General Election.
