Mattie V. Williams

AHOSKIE- Mattie Virginia Williams, 83, of the 200 block of N.C. Highway 561 East, died June 10, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

She was a native of Martin County, a daughter of the late William Henry and Emma Manning Daniel, and a Member of Union United Methodist Church, and a inspector for Ahoskie Manufacturing Company.

A celebration service of Mrs. Williams’ life will be 3 p.m.

Friday, June 13, 2008 at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel 205 N.C. Highway 42 West, with Rev. Robert May officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Left to cherish her memory is a son, David Junior Williams and wife Anne, Ahoskie; one brother, Linwood Daniel, Salem, Va.; two grandsons, Mike Williams and wife Julie, Alan Williams and wife Julie; two great grandchildren, Carly Williams and Haiden Williams.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. June 12, 2008 and other time at the home of her son.

Richard T. Vann

AHOSKIE n Richard T. Vann, 87, of the 600 block of Hall Siding Road, passed away June 11, 2008, at Rich Square Health Care Center.

Mr. Vann was born May 6, 1921 in Hertford County to the late Jackson and Pattie Sue Sumner Vann.  He was most happy when he was on his beloved farm in Brantley’s Grove.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Taylor Vann, his daughter, Loretta Vann Hieronimus and husband, Ray of Chesapeake, VA; his granddaughter, Wendi Nixon Christopher and husband, Willis of Virginia Beach, VA; and his pride and joy, his great grandson, Tyler Christopher.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 N.C. Hwy 42 West, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Robert May officiating.  Burial will follow in the Vann Family Cemetery, for family only, Ahoskie.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, prior to services.  Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 530 N.C. 561 E., Ahoskie, NC, 27910.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rich Square Heath Care Center for their wonderful care during the past months.

Mattie Manley

GARYSBURG- Mattie Evans Manley, 60, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 at Chapel Grove Baptist Church in Garysburg. A funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. immediately following the visitation by Pastor Elbert Lee. Burial will be after the service at Chapel Grove Church Cemetery.

John Boyce

WOODLAND- John Boyce, 81, died June 11, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

Boyce was a native of Northampton County.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Boyce of Woodland; three sons, McCoy Boyce, Darnell Boyce, and Michael Boyce, all of Woodland; one daughter, Jacqueline Howard of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Luvenia Burton of Hampton, Va.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Cumbo Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square by the Rev. Carroll Dickens.

Hertford County Undertakers, Winton is in charge.

Elise Riddick Newsome

AHOSKIE- Elise Riddick Newsome died June 10, 2008 at her residence.

She was a church member at Newsome Grove Baptist Church, Ahoskie.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert Lee Newsome, Jr. of Aulander, Charles Leon Newsome of Ahoskie, and Roger Ray Newsome of Bolivia, N.C.; two daughters, Patricia A. Clark of Murfreesboro, and Carthinia N. Wright of Ahoskie; three brothers, Charles and Bobby Riddick, both of Ahoskie, and Kelly Saunders of Powellsville; one sister, Maurice Riddick Kirpatrick of Greensboro; 58 grandchildren; and over 50 great grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Newsome Grove Baptist Church, Ahoskie by Richard Smallwood. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie.

Armin J. Cherry

WINDSOR- Armin J. Cherry, 30, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Maury.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Christine George

COLUMBIA, MD- Christine George died June 11, 2008 at Howard Co. General Hospital, MD.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Richard Flood

MURFREESBORO- Richard Flood died Sunday, June 1 at the Murfreesboro Inn, Murfreesboro.

He was employed with Smithfield Foods and was a member of Troop 123 Boy Scouts at an early age. He graduated from Murfreesboro High School.

Survivors include, one daughter, Shana Brown of London, England; one sister, Vickie Flood of Murfreesboro; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.
