AHOSKIE – Pitt County Post 160 beat Ahoskie 12-3 in a Senior American Legion game Tuesday night.
Pitt County opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second inning, but Ahoskie rallied in the bottom of the same frame.
Aaron Hoggard reached on an error for Post 102 and then stole second. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored moments later on another errant pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1.
With two outs, Bryce Cullipher walked, Grayson Toms singled and Joe Harrell reached on catcher’s interference, but a groundout ended the threat.
Post 160 added one run in the third inning and three in the fourth frame to take a 7-1 advantage.
Pitt County scored again in the top of the sixth to take an 8-1 lead before Ahoskie got on the board again in the bottom of the inning on a Dylan Ralph solo homer to left.
After Pitt scored three runs in the top of the seventh, the visiting squad added their final run in the top of the ninth to lead 12-2.
Ahoskie scored in the bottom of the ninth when Cullipher walked and stole second. Toms plated Cullipher on an RBI-single.
Post 102 had five hits during the contest led by Toms who was 3-for-3. Ralph and Hoggard had the other two hits.
“We are leaving too many people on base on offense and on defense we are not making routine plays,” Post 102 Head Coach Randy Whitaker said. “We just have to start playing better.”
Ahoskie used five pitchers during the contest including Harrell, R.J. Deppisch, Ryan Matthews, Toms and Hoggard.
Ahoskie dropped to 2-7 overall and play a doubleheader at Pitt County Post 29 today (Saturday) at 4 p.m.
They will also play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Nash County.
