Wilber L. Smith

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Wilber Latermus &uot;Smitty&uot; Smith, 84, a native of Eure, died May 30, 2008.

Smith was a member of Eure Christian Church and Bayview United Church of Christ. After graduating from high school, he moved to Norfolk where he began a career with the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) which became the only job he ever had. After serving his country from 1943 to 1946 in the Army-Air Force, where he was a crew member engaged in the repair of aircraft engines and bodies, he returned to NARF to become an aircraft mechanic and subsequently in 1952, he earned the title of instructor of aircraft mechanics.

Survivors include his wife, Lena May Moore Smith; and a daughter, Patricia Smith Liebler.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Great Neck Chapel, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Donald Marvin Warrick, Junior. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Garden followed by a reception at Harbour Gate Condominiums. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.

Randolph Nichols, Sr.

MURFREESBORO- Randolph Nichols, Sr., 67, died May 28, 2008 at his residence.

Survivors include one son, Randolph Nichols, Jr. of Murfreesboro, three brothers, John Nichols, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Ralph Nichols of Conway and Raymond Nichols of Dayton, Ohio, four sisters, Lois Boone and Mary Smallwood, both of Conway and JoAnn Phillips and Cornelia Byrd, both of Baltimore, Md.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. William Denson, Jr. Burial was in the Nichols family Cemetery, Seaboard. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Purnell J. Robinson

SUFFERN NY- Purnell J. Robinson, 57, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

James Hall Sr.

GATESVILLE- James Howard Hall Sr., 69, died May 31, 2008 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Sycamore Hill AME Zion Church, Gatesville by Dr. Sandi Hutchinson and the Rev. Claude Odom.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Smith, Venita M. Griffin, and Vera H. Parker, all of Gatesville; three sons, George T. Reddick, James H. Hall Jr., and Joseph L. Hall, all of Gatesville; three sisters, Francis L. Goodman, Mary H. Easom, and Susie Reddick, all of Gatesville; two brothers, John Hall Sr. and Thomas Hall, of Gatesville; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be in the Hall Lane Cemetery, Gatesville.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at 157 Carter’s Road, Gatesville.

Lonnie Beverly

HARRELLSVILLE- Lonnie “Buddy” Beverly died June 2, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted Friday by the Rev. Robert L. Lewis at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Harrellsville.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Mae Stewart of Port Charlotte, Fl., and Miriam Ann Beverly of Ahoskie; one brother, Stanley Beverly of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Anthony Brown

AHOSKIE- Anthony Brown died May 31, 2008 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Brown of Ahoskie; two daughters, Maria Brown- Cherry of Charlotte, and Donna Eason of Greenville; three brothers, Vance Brown of Ahoskie, Alvin Simmons of Roxobel, and Lonnie Simmons of Murfreesboro; three sisters, Joann Cherry of Ahoskie, Kathy Spain and Betty Dorsey, both of Virginia Beach, and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Second Baptist Church Union, Ahoskie, by the Rev. M. Brian Pierce.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Lance Cpl. Cameron Conner Clark

ROANOKE RAPIDS- Lance Cpl. Cameron Conner Clark, USMC, 19, a native of Roanoke Rapids, died May 29, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Clark graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School in 2007 before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.

He was with the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point and was a member of New Life Church of Christ, Roanoke Rapids.

Survivors include, his mother, Diane Gordon of Emporia, Va.; his father, Steve Clark of Littleton; his maternal grandmother, Doris Parker of Ahoskie; and a sister, Kayleigh Clark of Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at New Life Church of Christ by Minister Billy Meinsen.

Burial with full military honors followed in Cedarwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the Navy- Marine Corps Relief Society, Hdgs, 875 Randolph St., Suite 225, Arlington VA 22203. Wrenn, Clarke and Hagan Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, was in charge.

Willie D. Rountree

MIDDLESEX — Willie Daniel Rountree, 85, of Topping, VA, was called home to eternal rest May 26, 2008, after a short illness. Willie was born July 28, 1922 in Roxobel, N.C.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was employed for many years by Newport News Shipbuilding as a master pipefitter and later by NORSHIPCO.

Upon retirement, he returned to Gates County, N.C., where his longtime dream of owning a farm came true. He and his wife, Millie, relocated to Topping in 2003, and grew and sold fresh vegetables for the past five years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Rountree of Smithfield, Va. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 62 years, Millie; three daughters, Sheila Hudson of Topping, Va.; Cathy Mays of Frede-ricksburg, Va.; and Wilma Harrell of Elizabeth City, N.C.; four grandchildren, Brian Rountree, Danny Rountree, Lisa Mikus of Hampton, VA, and Denise Brooks of Elizabeth City, NC; and five great-grandchildren.
