Storms hit Bertie County – again

AULANDER – For the third time in less than a month, the Connaritsa area of Bertie County has been affected by storm damage.
Fortunately, this time was not nearly as bad as the previous two.
Nevertheless, at least one home near Aulander was affected by Sunday’s storms.
Bertie County Emergency Management Coordinator Rickey Freeman reports a tree that fell on a house and vehicle in that location.
Furthermore, near Colerain on Wakelon Road, there were reports of a portable carport being destroyed and tin or shingles being blown off of houses, in addition to trees being down in the road.
On Bess Landing Road, also in the Colerain area, there were trees down across roads and in yards.
Power outages were reported briefly Sunday night in Aulander and Askewville, but Freeman says all to his knowledge were back on within a few hours.
&uot;Most of it is straight-line gust wind damage. We’ve had no reports of people seeing a funnel cloud,&uot; Freeman noted.
He continued, &uot;However, we haven’t heard anything back from the National Weather Service to confirm whether there was anything on radar during that time to indicate a tornado.&uot;
Freeman stated that county officials are still doing assessments to determine the extent of already-reported damages and to see if there are any others.
He remarked, &uot;Everything seems to be pretty much okay this time… it wasn’t anything like (the damage) a couple of weeks ago anyway.&uot;
If anyone has any storm damage to report, they can contact Freeman in his office at 794-5302.
