Donald Kalapp

SUNBURY n Donald Lee Kalapp, 78, a native of Jacksonville, FL, died May 25, 2008 in Down East Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gatesville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Kalapp was a Baptist by faith, worked as a driver with the Brinks Corporation for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Drury Kalapp; two daughters, Deborah Skidmore of Sunbury and Connie Messenger of Connecticut; a son, Donald Ray Kalapp of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Patsy Hunter

ROCKY MOUNT n Patsy Hunter, 49, died May 28, 2008 at Nash General Hospital.

Randolph Nichols, Sr.

MURFREESBORO- Randolph Nichols, Sr., 67, died May 28, 2008 at his residence.

Survivors include one son, Randolph Nichols, Jr. of Murfreesboro, three brothers, John Nichols, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Ralph Nichols of Conway and Raymond Nichols of Dayton, Ohio, four sisters, Lois Boone and Mary Smallwood, both of Conway and JoAnn Phillips and Cornelia Byrd, both of Baltimore, Md.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. William Denson, Jr. Burial will be in the Nichols family Cemetery,

Seaboard. Reynolds Funeral Home Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Jimmie L. Whitaker

RICH SQUARE n Jimmie Lee Whitaker, 61, a native of Northampton County, died May 28, 2008 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Whitaker was a deacon at Mt. Zion

Baptist

Church,

Paterson, NJ. He was a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his mother, Pauline Whitaker of Rich Square; a son, James Lee Whitaker of Paterson; daughters, Janice M. Whitaker, Gloria Artis and Latasha Whitaker Moore, all of Paterson; sisters, Rose Whitaker of Paterson and Gladys Whitaker of Rich Square; and four grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rich Square, by Elder Arthur Clark. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Rich Square, is in charge.

Robert M. Rawls

AULANDER n Mr. Robert McCoy Rawls, age 82, died May 28, 2008. Mr. Rawls was born March 19, 1926 in Aulander, NC, the son of the late George and Bessie Jernigan Rawls. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Phil, Grover, Raymond and Abe Rawls, and sister, Ruby R. Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Lan Nguyen Rawls; his daughters, Nancy, Amanda and Frances Rawls, all of Houston, Texas, Cathy Rawls of Berkeley, California; grandchildren, Shannon Thai, Tiffany Thai and Faye Thai; brother, Fred Rawls of Woodland; and a sister, Mary R. Hunt and husband, Bobby of Aulander.

Mr. Rawls was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Ahoskie, a former security guard with Odom Prison and Golden Peanut Company. He was a retired Sergeant First Class with the United States Army and a member of the V.F.W. in Aulander. Mr. Rawls was very proud of his military service to his country.

Funeral services will be held, Monday, June 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Ahoskie with Father Thomas McGee O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial will follow at Aulander with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 7:00 until 8:30 pm.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to St. Charles Catholic Church, Ahoskie, N.C.

Evoria Gatling

SPRINGFIELD, TN n Evoria Elizabeth Gatling, 89, a native of Hertford County, died May 28, 2008 Northcrest Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Jordan. Burial will be in the Gatling family cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one daughter, Marion Gatling of Springfield; one sister, Florence Lawrence of New York, NY; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Shaquan Mosley

WINDSOR n Shaquan Mosley, 29, died May 28, 2008 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Temple, Windsor. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Media Talbert Revelle

MURFREESBORO n Media Talbert Revelle, 87, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Hampton Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson.

He had been preceded in death by his first wife, Merle Bridgers Revelle, parents, Tommie Clayton and Myrtle Evans Revelle, and a brother, Thomas Robert Revelle.

An area farmer, he worked with his brother, Robert in the agribusiness of peanut buying.

He was a member of Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church and was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Coast Guard and participating in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Also. he was active in the Northampton County American Legion Chapter and he loved gardening and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Clarine Speight Revelle of Hampton Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson; two sons, Judson Revelle and wife, Debbie, of Grayslake, IL and Danny Revelle and wife, Anneke, of Conway; three grandchildren, Shane Revelle and Clay Revelle of Conway and Amber Rogers and husband, Patrick of Rocky Mount; a step granddaughter, Brook Craven

of Austin TX; two great grandchildren, McKenna Rogers and Miller Rogers of Rocky Mount; a brother, Carson Revelle of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Margaret Egglantine Smith of Boykins, VA.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, 2:30 P.M. at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church, Ashley’s Grove Road, Conway with Rev. David Ross presiding.

Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway, Saturday from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at other times at the home of Danny & Anneke Revelle. They welcome flowers or memorial gifts shared with Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church or Hampton Woods

James E. Sessoms

WINDSOR n James Edward Sessoms, died May 24, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 9 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Survivors include three sons, James Sessoms Jr. of Virginia, Norris Sessoms and Bernard Sessoms, both of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Barbara Figuroa and Vivian Moore, both of Brooklyn; two sisters, Ora White and Clara Holloman, both of Ahoskie; and 12 grandchildren.

Milton D. Canada

POWELLSVILLE n Milton D. “MD” Canada, died May 28, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church Powellsville by Rev. John White. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Ahoskie. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Canada was a member of First Baptist Church Powellsville.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Canada of Powellsville; one son, Dwight Ransome of Windsor; one daughter Jacqueline Brown of Ahoskie; one sister, Claristine Canada of Hampton, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Junius Russell Sr.

HENDERSON n Junius B. “JB Sr.” Russell Sr., a native of Warren County, died May 29, 2008 at Guardian Care of Henderson.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Monday at Coley Springs Baptist Church, Warrenton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Elizabeth Russell Memorial Scholarship, c/o United Fellowship Club, P.O. Box 286, Norlina, NC 27563. Brown Funeral Home, Warrenton, is in charge. Russell was a retired farmer. He was a part-time lumber truck driver and owner of a lifetime country store in the Axtell Community. He was also the retired trustee at Coley Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his children, J.B. Jr. of Ahoskie, Emily R. Robinson of Oxford, Charles of Newport News, Va., Gabriel Stacy of Durham, Patricia A. Russell of Warrenton and Rev. Dora R. Dorsey of Rockingham.

Annie Harrison

ROCKY MOUNT n Annie Harrison, 86, died May 24, 2008.

Ruth P. Wright

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Ruth Pierce Wright, 73, a native of Henderson, died May 29, 2008 at her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Barry Garner. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, from 7 until 9 p.m. and other times at the home.

Survivors include her husband, Otto Benjamin Wright; her daughters, Brenda S. Cox of Roanoke Rapids and Linda Faye Johnson of Fairfield, Calif.; two sons, Danny Lee Smith of Coxehaven, Germany and Otto Benjamin Wright Jr. of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Lavenia P. “Dean” Harmon of Ahoskie; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Lora B. Hill

AHOSKIE – Lora Brown Hill 84, of the 300 block of Lee Jernigan Road, died May 29, 2008 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

She was a native of Hertford County, NC a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ahoskie, and along with her late husband Mr. Vassie Hill operated Proctor’s Store.

A Graveside Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Hill will be 2:00 PM Sunday June 1, 2008 at Highland Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Richard Rice officiating.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters; Ann Hill Maness, Ahoskie, NC, Linda Williams, Virginia Beach, Va., one sister; Mildred “Billie” Romberger, Allentown, PA., one brother; Beecher Brown, Lakeland, FL., three grandchildren; Johnny Williams, Lori Todd, Amy Pierce, on great grandchild; Dustin Pierce.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, NC from 7 to 8:30 PM Saturday May 31, 2008 and other times at the Home.
