LASKER – The annual Dr. Joe Fleetwood Golf Classic has been scheduled for June 14.
The golf tournament, which will benefit the Dr. Joseph Fleetwood Scholarship, will be held at Valley Pine Country Club.
In 1999, citizens established a scholarship to honor “Dr. Joe,” who has given his life to so many in our area through his talents as a doctor, and with his compassion for helping people, for more than 50 years.
Since 1999, the scholarship has awarded two or three scholarships annually to deserving high school seniors from the area.
The fifth annual tournament will by a four-man team and includes a steak dinner for the $260 cost. Registration is required by June 7.
Sponsorships are available at $100 each.
Checks should be made payable to the Dr. Joe Fleetwood Scholarship Fund and sent in care of Jentry White to 1595 Vaughan Creek Road, Conway, NC 27820.
Dr. Fleetwood graduated from Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in 1947 and entered the Navy and was commissioned as a Lieutenant J.G. and assigned to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis as a base physician.
After the war, Fleetwood returned to Conway to enter practice along with his father. Dr. Fleetwood retired from his practice in 1999 and is an active member of the community.
