Rape suspect arrested

AHOSKIE – An Ahoskie man is jailed under a $153,000 bond after being charged with assault, kidnapping and rape.
Kevin Laverne Gatling, 43 of 409 East Saludia Hall Road, was arrested last week and charged with three felonies n 1st degree forcible rape, 1st degree kidnapping and assault inflicting serious injury.
Gatling also faces four misdemeanors n assault on a female, breaking and entering, communicating threats and making harassing telephone calls.
He was arrested by Ahoskie Police Sgt. Ty Metzler and Officer Michael Kellett.
According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, Sgt. Metzler and Officer Kellett were dispatched to Peachtree Court Apartments on May 11 in regards to the alleged crimes.
“The officers were advised that the victim knew her attacker,” Fitzhugh said. “The suspect had forced his way into her apartment, assaulted her, held her against her will and raped the victim.”
The suspect, according to Fitzhugh, also used a weapon during the crime.
Gatling was arrested the same day.
