Lucille F. Vann

CONWAY n Lucille Francis Vann, 79, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids. She was the daughter of the late Nathan and Ruby Francis of Capron, Virginia.

She had been preceded in death by husbands, Walter Frank Ferguson II, Joe Brittle, and Basil Leon Taylor; two grandchildren, Katherine Lucille Dampier and Robert E. “Robby” Dampier, II and a sister, Lizzie Francis Spivey.

Mrs. Vann was a member of Conway Baptist Church and a former member of the Conway Womans Club. She had been retired as Canteen Supervisor at Southampton Correctional Center in Capron, Virginia. Above all, she was devoted to her family.

Survivors include three sons, Douglas Bruce Ferguson and Laura of Woodbridge, VA, Michael Wayne Ferguson and Patsi of Colonial Heights, VA, and Walter Frank Ferguson, III and fianc\u00E9 Kathy of Conway; one daughter, Sonja Ferguson Vinson of Pendleton; five grandchildren, Douglas Bruce Ferguson, Jr. and Rebecca of Gloucester, VA, Jennifer Ferguson Waites and Kenny of Fitchburg, WI, James David Achee’, Jr. of Conway, Brian Scott Ferguson of Columbia, SC, and Travis Ferguson and Connie of Colonial Heights, VA; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Brooks Holloman of Pendleton, MacKenzie Katherine and Kennedy Taylor Waites of Fitchburg, WI, Angel Marie, Faith Ann and Savannah Ferguson of Colonial Heights, VA; one brother, Nathan Francis Jr. and Clonie of Conway; and one sister, Helen Francis Gillette of Capron, Va.

Funeral services will be held at Conway Baptist Church in Conway, Tuesday, April 29, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Willie McLawhorn presiding. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery.

The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and are requesting that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift may do so to Conway Baptist Church, P.O. Carrie James

WASHINGTON, D.C. n Carrie James, 73, died April 24, 2008 in Merry Hill.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Law family cemetery, Merry Hill. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Ruby Booth

GATES n Ruby Booth, died April 25, 2008 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Gates. Burial will be in the Booth family cemetery. Stallings Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Earl L. Hoggard

WINDSOR n Earl Levester Hoggard, 65, died April 25, 2008 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Speller’s Chapel Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gilliam Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery Windsor.

Bobby S. Ambrose

MURFREESBORO n Bobby Sheridan Ambrose, 72, died Sunday, April 27, 2008.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Ambrose; sisters, Mildred Alston and Jane Roberts; and a brother, Carl “Junior” Ambrose.

He is survived by his daughters, Anita Mills and husband, Greg and Jean “Priss” Ambrose and James Buck, all of Scotland Neck; brother, Jimmy Ambrose and wife Linda Faye of Ahoskie; two grandchildren, Ashley Mills and Greg Mills; special nephew, Zip Ambrose; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the home of Anita and Greg Mills, 61 Access Road, Scotland Neck.
