WINDSOR n Elizabeth Ann Anthony, 49, a native of Bertie County, died April 4, 2008 at

Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Jonathan Downing. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Forrest L. Knight

ROCKY MOUNT n Forrest Lee Knight, 65, died April 6, 2008 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God of Deliverance by the Rev. Keith Richardson. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

James A. Knight

ROCKY MOUNT n James Albert Knight, 63, died April 6, 2008 at his residence.

Myrtle R. Wynne

AHOSKIE n Myrtle Robertson Wynne, 82, of the 300 block of West South Street, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in Chowan Hospital, Edenton, NC.

Mrs. Wynne was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late David Hillary and Evelyn Powell Robertson.  She was a member of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the Ahoskie Garden Club. She was retired as an office employee for Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Donald Overton and wife, Linda of Kill Devil Hills, NC; her step son, John E. Wynne of Ahoskie; step daughters, Jennifer Beverly and husband, Bill of Richmond, VA, Georgia Copeland and husband, Bill of Ahoskie; a sister, Edna Joyner of Spartanburg, SC; a brother, Carlton Robertson and wife, Connie of Edenton; grandchildren, Don Overton and Melody Overton both of Greensboro; and a great grandchild, Triston Overton.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Robert May officiating.  Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Pinewood Memorial Park, Greenville, NC.  The family will receive friends at the home.

Plummer Davis

ROCKY MOUNT n Plummer Davis, 74, died April 9, 2008 at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

Arnold R. Futrell, Jr.

BURLINGTON, Kansas n Arnold Raiford Futrell, Jr., 77, a native of Conway, North Carolina, died Wednesday night, April 9, 2008 at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington.

Futrell was born April 13, 1930

to Arnold R. Futrell, Sr. and Brownie Lee Askew Futrell.

He grew up in Northampton Township in North Carolina and graduated from Woodland-Olney High School. He then attended and graduated from Wake Forest University. Following college he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He then returned home and on March 23, 1956, he and Roberta S. “Bobbie” Stutz were married at Rich Square, North Carolina. Arnold was employed by a rural electric cooperative for several years. He later moved to Greensboro and Charlotte, North Carolina before moving to Burlington, Kansas, in 1977. He was employed by the Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative until his retirement. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie, preceded him in death on January 1, 2006. He was also preceded by a grandson, Robert Andrew, on December 4, 2007.

Survived by a son, Tim Futrell and wife, Brenda of Burlington, KS; two grandsons, Adam and Ryan Futrell, both of Burlington, KS; a sister, Josephine Turner and husband Bill of Morrison, Tenn.; and a brother, Charlie Futrell and wife, Jackie of High Point, NC.

Services will be held 1:30 P.M. Monday, April 14, 2008, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS. Burial will be Graceland Cemetery, Burlington, KS. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Celestine Newsome

JACKSON nCelestine Newsome, 63, died April 6, 2008 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted

at 4 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Church, Jackson, by the Rev. Timothy Edwards. Burial will be in the Edwards-Deloatch Cemetery at Allen Chapel. Jesse Hood Funeral Home is in charge.

Ermina P. Bunch

LOCUST GROVE – Ermina Perry Bunch, 86, died April 8, 2008, in Boca Raton, Fla. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Bunch family cemetery in the Joppa community of Gates County. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

Elizabeth R. Hurdle

BELVIDERE – Elizabeth Hope &uot;Doodle&uot; Riddick Hurdle, 86, a native of Gates County, died April 10, 2008, in her home. She was the widow of Harlan A. Hurdle Sr.

Mrs. Hurdle was a homemaker, she was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, its W.M.U. and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Survivors include four daughters, Chip B. Byrum of Seaford, Va., Frankie Proctor of Roanoke, JoAnn Dail of Plymouth and Wendy Hendrix of Jarvisburg; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Vernon Gilmer Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, is in charge. Ruth S. Rowlette

Colonial Heights, VA-Ruth Stephenson Rowlette, 89, of 15422 Jefferson Davis Hwy. passed away April 9, 2008.

She was born July 19, 1918 in Northampton County, NC where she graduated from a local high school.

She was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, VA where she served faithfully as Church Mother, Sunday School member, Missionary, Senior Citizens Group and choir member.

Ruth retired from Patrick Henry Motel where she was a housekeeper for 32 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Emmette Curtis Rowlette.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Tony Curtis Rowlette (Corrine) of Chesapeake; one grandson, Curtis George Ralph Rowlette; one goddaughter, Dorcus Wiggins; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, care providers and friends.

A funeral will be held 2:30PM, Sunday, Bethesda Baptist Church, 15800 Woods Edge Rd. Colonial Heights, VA.

Pastor Junita Harrison will officiate.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Chester, VA.

Family and friends will assemble at the home one hour prior to service for procession to the church.

A wake service will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Saturday, Bland Funeral Home, 137 Harrison St. Petersburg, VA.
