AHOSKIE – Mary Kate Morris pitched a one-hitter as Ridgecroft School claimed the top spot at last Saturday’s Ridgecroft One-Day Tourney with a 10-0 win over Northeast Academy.

The Lady Rams had 12 hits, including two doubles from Morris, in the victory.

“I thought it was one our most complete games,” said Ridgecroft’s Head Coach Larry Smith. “Our defense got to work, Mary Kate was hitting her spots and we got timely hits.”

After holding Northeast to three-and-out, the Lady Rams wasted little time getting in the scoring column.

Mary Myers singled then came home on Tayler Smith’s double to centerfield. Smith stole third then came home after a Northeast error. Jessica Bolton hit a single then crossed home plate after Sara Hackney hit a single to give Ridgecroft a 3-0 advantage.

Northeast had a chance to score in the third. Meghan Bridgers bunted, then stole second, but was picked off trying to steal third. Ashley Ricks walked to first and stole second, but was left on base after Morris struck out the batter for the third out.

The Lady Rams scored an unearned run in the third, but left the bases loaded when Northeast pitcher Kelly Sykes got the final out of the inning.

Ridgecroft added runs by Emily Cooke and Mary Myers in the fourth, extending their lead to six.

Northeast got their only run of the game at the fifth on a single from Sykes, but she was left on base as the next two batters were thrown out at first base.

The Lady Rams added four more runs in the final two innings to secure the win, 10-0.

“We played good defense and made good plays in the field,” said Smith.

Morris was 3-for-4 from the plate. Hackney and Myers were 2-for-4.

“We faced a good pitcher today,” said Northeast Head Coach Joella Brown. “We made a good effort and can see improvement but we made to many mistakes.”
