Winnie H. Small
SUNBURY – Winnie Dee Hicks Small, 89, a native of Amarillo, Texas; and more recently of Nansemond Pointe Convalescent Center, Suffolk, died March 1, 2008. She was the widow of Forrest M. Small.
Mrs. Small a faithful member of Oak Grove Christian Church, she had retired as the storeroom superintendent and purchasing agent at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk.
She is survived by a brother, Elmer F. Hicks of Studio City, Calif.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Garrett Lewis. Burial will be in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery in Sunbury. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Christian Church, c/o Annette Modlin, 590 US 158 E., Sunbury, NC 27979.
Sylvia F. Worrell
MURFREESBORO – Sylvia Futrell Worrell, 92, formerly of Murfreesboro and more recently of Houston, Texas, died March 1, 2008.
Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, is in charge.
Stonewall A. Baker
SUFFOLK – Stonewall Albert Baker, 93, a native of Bertie County, died Feb. 29, 2008. He was the widower of this wife, Opal Powell Baker.
Baker worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of the Kings Fork Ruritans Club, the Suffolk Christian Church, and was an Usher Emeritus.
Survivors include his daughters, Gail Baker Taylor and Anita Baker Laine of Suffolk; four granddaughters; two grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great- granddaughter; and a sister, Lucille Beaton of Charleston, S.C.
A graveside funeral was conducted Monday at Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Halley. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge. Nelson Little
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Nelson Little, 78, a native of Bertie County,
died February 28, 2008, in Maryview Nursing Care Center.
He retired as a brakeman/engineer from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 37 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include a wife, Laura Wingfield-Little; son, Nelson A. Little of San Diego of the U.S. Navy; two sisters, Eva Little and Ruby Taylor both of Philadelphia; one brother, Cornwallis Little of Grateford, Pa.; and one grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by Bishop Curtis J. Edmonds in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Billy W. Tester Sr.
SUFFOLK, Va.
– Billy Wayne Tester Sr., 65, a native of Bristol, Tenn., died February 29, 2008.
the son of Ruth B. Tester and the late Fred D. Tester. Billy was a graduate of Smithfield High School. He retired as a welder for Ciba Chemicals and attended Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lynda W. Tester of Suffolk; mother, Ruth B. Tester; daughters, Lynn Carroll of Corapeake and Cindy and Bill Overman of Sunbury, son, Wayne Tester Jr. of Suffolk; a sister, Barbara Powell of Smithfield; and five grandchildren.

Leavina W. Hall
AHOSKIE – Leavina Williams Hall, 81, of the 600 Block of Lloyd Street, died March 2, 2008 in her home.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Bertie County, a retired bank teller for Wachovia Bank, a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church, and the daughter of the late Ed and Annie Thompson Williams. She was the widow of Roby Fulton Hall.
A graveside service will be 2:00 PM. Tuesday at Highland Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Dr. John Dutton Officiating.
Left to cherish her memory is a granddaughter, Heather Hall Hill and husband Donald, of Cumming, GA.; a great-great granddaughter, Piper Penny Hill; and one sister, Edrie Williams Miller of Ahoskie, NC.

Robert L. Johnson
MURFREESBORO n Robert Lee Johnson, 65, a native of Chatham County, died February 29, 2008 at the home of his daughter.
A graveside service was conducted Monday at Job Cemetery, Aulander, with Tim Minton. Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, is in charge.
Johnson attended Plainfield Friends Meeting.
Survivors include his wife, Joan White Johnson of Murfreesboro; his mother, Louise Guthrie Johnson of Pittsboro; two daughters, Tammie J. Marley of Pittsboro, and Lou Anne J. Capps of Siler City; two sons, Kip Johnson of Siler City and Chris Johnson of Snow Camp; one brother, Earl Johnson of Pittsboro; three stepsons, Reginald Minton of Murfreesboro, Tim Minton of Clayton and Chris Minton of Fayetteville; and 10 grandchildren.
